The Importance of Howard Dean

Following the media coverage of the Democratic primaries and caucuses thus far has been extraordinarily enlightening to the social scientist in me. I have learned a great deal about the mechanisms by which the establishment manipulates the media to their own ends.

I have said this before, and what I have seen in practice over the past several weeks has but strengthened the evidence behind the belief: the establishment fears Dr. Dean. They fear him because he represents so many steps forward toward giving the people real power. Yes, real power, through a real voice, that is truly heeded by intelligent elected officials.

Let me make this abundantly clear: The United States of America is not a democracy. We are a republic. Howard Dean seeks to give the people more of a say in their government, and as such, seeks to bring democracy closer to the people. That is why he has my support. That is why the establishment absolutely quakes in fear at the prospect of his presidency. Because the establishment wants to keep power consolidated in the hands of a select few. That is the old republic. We, as a society, and as a people, have outgrown the traditional republic. True patriots of America yearn for democracy, and yearn to have the input into the government that is making decisions that affect our lives and the lives of everyone on Earth. Input beyond a once every four year vote. We want to be heard. We want to participate in our democracy. Howard Dean is the only candidate that has proven that he heeds our voices and welcomes our participation.

Power is not a zero-sum game. However, by creating more power in the people, Howard Dean will have decentralized the power that has been so long hoarded by the establishment. In that way, those in power today will have to share their control. No longer will they be able to guide the fates of so many, because our fates will be in our own hands.

Despite the social ramifications, it's really very simple. It comes down to one thing: the future. If you don't want the future to be one in which we are monitored, controlled, and exploited by people like George Bush, Dick Cheney, and John Ashcroft, their corproate interests and their warmongering ways, your candidate is Howard Dean. Period.

If you want to participate in a future where we are citizens of a globally responsible America that seeks to bring true peace, not peace by the muzzle of an M-16, and true freedom and democracy to other peoples, not corporate exploitation thinly veiled as freedom and democracy, then Howard Dean is your President.

This race is far from over, despite what the establishment would have you believe. Howard Dean has my support. I ask you to consider giving him yours.
